Day 14 Latte Hotel to Phong Nha
Less miles today but still an early start before breakfast to avoid the heat. The first bit followed the main road but we turned off onto a much quieter route into the hills. Stopped at a bakery that was selling filled rolls so an omelette roll was our first meal of the day. Spied a market a bit later and bought a bunch of about 16 mini bananas with locals helping me understand the cost. So many 0's on the notes it gets very confusing! £1=30 000 dong! Said 'allo' to what seemed like millions of Vietnamese and finally arrived at Phung Nha at about 11am!
This town was recommended by my niece who travelled here last year and I can see why it was her favourite place. On a river with mountains all around and a lovely relaxed feel to it.
Had a cycle up river to see the entrance to one of the caves this place is famous for- will explore more tomorrow.
Our hotel owner told us about a vegan restaurant which we tried out tonight and was so good to be able to have something other than fried rice or noodles- mind you the chillies in my dish kept my lips burning for about an hour!!!
Loving the place names, Latte Hotel, Phong Nha, wondering ency - if there is a place called 'Wat Phong' :-) And the currency - 30000 Dong to a pound!
