Day 15 Phong Nha
We'll never mind Dong Nah, for us it's Dong Yea. After much agonising last night about which excursion to partake today, we decided on the adventurous one.... rather expensive for us but glad we bit the bullet.
This involved a walk through the jungle, visit to magnificent, ginormous caves with stalactites and stalagmites (on an epic scale); a delicious vege lunch, a zip wire across the river and more caves that involved a swim, a scramble and followed by a mud bath. To exit the river we kayaked downstream to a water park where Jen went down a very fast waterslide, then accompanied me off another zip wire dropping into the river from height.
The whole thing was fantastic, there is no way this could happen in the UK as health and safety would be all over it. We loved Paradise cave for its beauty and magnificence and the Dark cave for the spirit of adventure and sheer craziness of scrambling through the dark (helmets and head torches on) through water, mud and sharp slippery rocks- all in bare feet. Jen got carried away in the mud bath and was plastered in the stuff- she's in the shower now desperately trying to get the glutenous substance out of orifice and hair. Some of my friends and family will be surprised to hear that I went barefoot through sand, mud and water. Don't get excited - it's a one off!!!!
Thank you Molly Garrick for the recommendation - a good shout

DeleteI’m so jealous this sounds incredible!!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great hash plenty of shiggy and wet stuff. Mid life crisis stuff along with the Mazda? Mandy just read all your blogs wanted to know if you ate the snails and thought the caves looked fantastic.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately a few slipped by me- the photos give you no idea of the size of the caves- they are the size of a cathedral and are 31 km in length!!!
