Day 33 Mang Den
We hired a moped, headed into town for another bang mi op la and headed to a lake to sit and eat. From there the moped took us up and down steep windy roads with several potholes to Pa Sy Waterfall. Well worth a visit. It was a place for strolling, picnicking,BBQs and chilling, with rickety bridges over the river, loads of picnic spots in the shade, a cafe and of course the waterfall. I managed to sneak in a quick dip in the river before we ordered a couple of drinks- well we thought we had but turned out Pete had ordered a bowl of non flavoured green ice-cream!
Back to the homestay for a rest / book read / nap and then out again to a local tribal village where all the houses are wooden and on stilts.
Had a lovely long chat with the lady looking after the homestay and she kindly phoned a hotel on the border town to book us a room for a few days time.
The Vietnamese are such happy people- they work hard, don't earn that much, but appreciate what they have and are genuinely happy all the time.
Heading out for food we found that most places had already closed for Tet (New Year) and we had resigned ourselves with one of the pot noodles, when we found a pizza place. We paid premium prices, but worth it for one night. The owner is a local man and was taught how to make pizzas by an American. Of course he insisted we finished off with a night cap - some rice drinks his wife makes using rice and roots! All set now to ride to Kon Tum tomorrow for New Year.
Looks a fantastic homestay - what a treat!
ReplyDeleteLove the expression of the chap listening to one of Pete's stories! 😉
