Day 44 Stung Treng
A lazy day for some but not for Jenny who started the day at some ridiculous hour with a run along the river and through the market. Whilst I was unaware she'd gone.
We decided to take our bikes along the mighty Me Kong river to some rapids 10km away. It was incredibly hot even at 10 am. We stopped firstly at the market and bought a french stick and what appeared like donuts. After a few miles it was a quick stop for a coke at a riverside vendor, then on to the rapids. Though they were not the most impressive rapids we've ever seen the parking place offered shelter from the burning sun and some hammocks to lie in. Lunch was a bit of dried bread and donut - the outer was lovely and sugary and very don't like whilst the inner was not jam, nor custard but a not unpleasant savoury concoction- I should add a once in a life experience. For once sitting and resting got the better of me and I made a move to go. A mixture of heat and the south east Asian obsession with posing for the camera made me tired of this beautiful spot. One particular male couple spent well over a hour taking photos of one of them.
On our way back Jenny bought some battered bananas and sweet potato fries - delicious. The evening was spent at the local restaurant with our new best friend Sylvie a retired teacher from Strasbourg.
On the wayback I noticed the glowing lights of this bank-I pondered whether or not all it's clients had huge overdrafts - note the name 'The Woori Bank'
Big day tomorrow so an early start to try and beat the heat of the sun.
Mighty Mekong certainly living up to it's name!
